Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a list of the most frequently asked questions. If your question has still not been addressed after reading this, please feel free to contact us.

1. Should I bring my own fishing tackle?

The vast majority of our charters are trolling trips for which all tackle and equipment is supplied. However if you have a perch charter scheduled you can bring along your own tackle if you would like but it is not recommended. We have top notch tackle and gear, which will give you the best opportunity to catch fish and have an enjoyable time.

2. How many people can we bring along?

Your crew can consist of anywhere from 1-6 anglers. If you have a larger party we can arrange multiple boats, but please contact us as early as possible to avoid scheduling conflicts with other captains.

3. Can I pay with a credit card?

The preferred method of payment for deposits is with a credit card, although check and money orders are also accepted. When paying the balance of your charter trip cash, check, or money orders are appreciated. If you would prefer to pay your charter balance with a credit card please make prior arrangements. Please note that a small convenience fee may apply to credit card payments which are not designated for deposits.

4.  What is your guarantee policy?

We are very confident in our ability to put fish in the boat, and guarantee fish on every single trip onto the water. If we return to the dock without a legal size target fish, regular fees will still apply, but you will be offered a  free charter within one year of the date of your first trip. Your free trip can target any species, on either Lake Michigan or Lake Erie, regardless of your original charter type. However if the charter is cut short upon the customer's request or the start time was delayed significantly by a late arrival, normal fees will still be in effect, no matter the outcome and no additional trip shall be offered.

5. What happens in the event of bad weather?

The captain makes the final decision on all weather conditions. If the weather keeps us from fishing you will either have the choice of rescheduling, or a refund of your deposit.

6. Is alcohol allowed onboard?

Of course alcohol is allowed, but it is suggested that you drink in moderation for obvious reasons (Please try to avoid beverages in glass bottles if at all possible). We strictly enforce the US Coast Guard's Zero Tolerance Policy on all illegal drugs and controlled substances.

7. Who cleans the fish that we catch?

For all walleye and salmon charters, the captain will clean and package your fish immediately after your trip at no additional cost. Due to the extensive amount of tedious work required, perch cleaning is not included for such charters, but local bait shops offer perch cleaning services with great prices and fast turnaround times. Please call for more information if you are interested in these services for your perch charter.

8. Do I need a fishing license?

Every adult in your party will need a valid fishing license. The term 'adult' varies, depending on what state we will be fishing in. If we will be fishing in Michigan waters, any person age 17 or older will need a license, however in Ohio, any person age 16 or older will need a fishing license. Due to new regulations in 2011 it is strongly recommended that you obtain an Ohio fishing license before your trip to avoid complications, Click here for details.

9. Is there a bathroom onboard?

Yes, our boat is equipped with a private, stand-up marine head (which is a fully functional bathroom in mariners' terms). It is always kept clean for your comfort and convenience.

10. Deposit Refund Policy

Charters must be cancelled at least 30 days prior to your scheduled date in order to receive a full refund of your deposit. All charters cancelled within 30 days of your charter will result in forfeiture of deposit money. If a charter must be cancelled due to inclement weather you will have the choice of rescheduling your date or a refund of your deposit.

11.  Are the prices listed on the website per person or for the entire boat?

All prices listed on our website are for the entire boat, for the time duration that is specified. If you would like a per person price, simply divide the price listed on the website by the number of people in your fishing party.

12.  How many fish are we allowed to catch?

This depends on what type of charter you have scheduled. The table below shows the bag limits and size limits for the various waters that we fish. These are simply the legal bag limits, these amounts of fish are not guaranteed on every trip.
